NVA Parents Update - Meetup #1
We had a brilliant first NVA Parents meeting this weekend, with a room full of curious parents gathering together to work out how we could all get more out of videogames with our families.
The point of NVA Parents is to build a community for families who want to get the most out of videogames and we had both some great questions and some great advice from all of our attendees.
Attendees will remember all the fun we had making a Saturday-afternoon spreadsheet together. As promised, here's the scrappy datasets we made together. Viewers who didn't attend should know that these are incomplete, non-exhaustive but intended to start to mark out the territory that the group is inhabiting.
Special thanks must go to the brilliant Rev Kate Bottley, for her no-nonsense perspective on videogames in the home. Bottom-line : don’t be afraid, talk to your kids, get involved!
- We’re going to be launching more Pixelheads sessions in the coming weeks, for your families to attend and play at together.
- We’re going to be gathering together more resources, directions to interesting games that you might enjoy and other useful stuff and publishing it on here and on the parents mailing list weekly.
- We’re going to be organising a follow-up NVA Parents meet-up. This time definitely including stuff to play!
As promised, here’s a link to some of the topics we talked about :
The homepage for parents at the NVA.
This is where we’re going to publish all of the resources and news.
Common Sense Media
A useful site for independent reviews of all kinds of media.
Ask About Games
This is the official UKIE site for supporting parents.
Kerbal Space Program
As recommended by one of our NVA Parents, this is well worth a look.
Drop everything and go geocaching this weekend!
Thanks so much to everyone who came along.
More NVA Parents developments very soon!
